Veria City Public Services move on the Cloud

One more City adopts Storm Clouds applications preparing its public services’ migration to the Cloud. Veria is a historical city in northern Greece, located 511 kilometres north-northwest of the capital Athens and 73 km west-southwest of Thessaloniki. The population within the administrative unit “Municipality of Veria” includes 66,547 inhabitants.

As an important historical city, Veria, first mentioned in the writings of Thucydides in 432 BC, there is evidence that it was populated as early as 1000 BC. Veria was an important possession for Philip II of Macedon (father of Alexander the Great) and later for the Romans. The extensive archaeological site of Vergina (ancient Aegae), a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing the tomb of Philip II of Macedon, lies 12 km south-east of the city center of Veria. Today Veria is a commercial center of Central Macedonia and the capital of the regional unit of Imathia.

Cloud-based Services Portfolio adopted by the City of Veria includes the following applications:

Improve My City: Enables the citizens to report non-emergency local problems such as potholes, illegal trash dumping, faulty street lights, etc., through web, Android and iOS applications.

Cloudfunding: Supports local communities to collect money for social and charitable purposes.

City Branding: Promotes the identity of the city using virtual tours while connects the commons with local shops and services providers.

Virtual Mall: Enables every commercial enterprise located in the city center to create its own virtual shop

Within the framework of Storm Clouds Project, the Municipality of Veria have the opportunity to:

  • Host and migrate the applications onto Cloud Platform free of charge until the end of the project;
  • Personalize applications according to Organization’s aesthetical requirements;
